Food Network has published another guest blog post of mine. This one's about my latest trip to the Ottawa Farmers' Market, where Robin Turner (above middle) of Riverglen Farm, and Cory (below) of the Elk Ranch, sell their company's locally made foods every Sunday. My post on the market is at this link if you want to check it out. As always, I would love it if you would leave a comment :)

In Season for July

Now that summer is at its peak, berries are starting to come into season. Now, if I was a baker, which I'm not but would like to be, I would make a nice fruit tart with a homemade crust this month.
Some of the really healthy greens, like Swiss chard, rapini and kale are also available now. They stand up well to cooking in soups and in pastas. For example, in this fusilli recipe, you could substitute Swiss chard that's been sautéed and wilted for the spinach.

In Season for June

It's June and list of ripe locally grown foods keeps growing longer and longer :) Yesterday, I visited my local market at 4 p.m., and by 7 p.m. S and I were slurping down linguine with shrimp, hot pepper flakes, garlic and fresh basil, all in a sauce made from locally grown tomatoes. This is the life, people!

What's In Season for April
This summer, I've vowed to cook along with the seasons after watching Jamie Oliver frolicking all winter in his gigantic vegetable garden on the Food Network.
Here's a list of foods in season this month in various provinces in Canada. (Since this is an Ottawa blog, I've also added a section for our nation's capital.) My sources are the websites of farmers market associations. Not all of them have the same fruits and veggies on their harvest charts, hence the discrepancy between Ottawa and Ontario.
Please comment if you know of any other reliable links with harvest charts for the other provinces and territories, as I'd eventually like to list them all here.
